LET US CELEBRATE SUMMER:

This year's MOTTO for the Sommerfest is
the mushrooms, called Schwammer'l in
Bavaria. Last year we brought more wild
forest mushrooms to North Texas than any
year before - and served them while they
are fresh and tastes best. This is the
favorite time of the year for the lovers
of the "Schwammer'l". And this year's
season will last only until the
beginning of Schnitzelfest in 14 days.
So, please come on over soon. Here are
some ideas for your next lunch or dinner
with us:
|
|
Schwammerl mit Semmelknoedel
A Classic summer favorite:
Our mushroom ragout with a bread
dumpling.

|
 |
|
Spaetzle nach "Foersterin
Art" mit Wildschweinbratwurst
Pasta dumpiings topped with wild mush-
room raagout and grilled sliced wild
boar sausage.
|
Very traditional and our new top
seller, just like in Bavaria:
Schwammer'l Schnitzel
|
|
 |
|
Wild Forest mushrooms in a creamy white
wine sauce top this Schnitzel - we recommend
the bread dumpling and fresh vegetables to
accompany this classic.

Sommer Spanferkel Dinner -
This popular dinner features a juicy
suckling pig roast rubbed with special herbs
and spices, it comes with pretzel rolls and
Krautsalat, the Bavarian cole slaw. We will
match this special dinner with two choices
of the famous Spaten Dunkel bier $ 29.75 or
$24.75 for Stein Club members.
PLEASE BUY YOUR TICKET AT THE BAR UNTIL THIS
SATURDAY AS WE NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY GUEST
WE WILL FEED! THE LAST SPANFERKEL DINNERS
WERE A GREAT SUCCESS AND WE DO NOT WANT TO
RUN OUT ON THIS DELICACY!
Our special August meeting featured a guest
appearance of Julie, our new Spaten
ambassador. She came with Korbinian, the
Spaten brewmaster who orchestrates the
tapping of the keg with the Lord Mayor of
Munich to open the Oktiberfest. He shared
many interesting stories of the history and
we enjoyed samples of the Spaten Helles.,
sponsored by Andreas. Thank you all for a
GREAT EVENING! This was truly another
signature Stein Club event.
Regular Stein Club meetings are scheduled on
the second Wednesday night of every even
month. Regular Stein Club dinners or
Bavarian Bier Seminars are scheduled on the
second Wednesday night of every odd month..

Where in Bavaria are we? - Here is the
answer:

A great number of our readers
recognized
"Die Steinerne Bruecke in
Regensburg"
and shared their memories about
this great treasure with us!

Hello, I found your restaurant
website online while looking for
good German Food, your food was
excellent I returned to the website
tonight and found your quiz.
I lived in Germany for 17 years a a
member of the United States Army and
have fished the Danube, the first
time I saw Regensburg was in 1983
Charles Fall and I had left West
Berlin (the walled city behind the
Iron Curtain) on a hunting trip
outside of Regensburg and stayed in
the town of Sinzing across the
street from the bahnhoff there.
Charles looks like Ed Bruce the CW
singer and wore the big Stetsun hat
and I wore a Silverbelly Resitol,
it was June and they had a great
fest there in town, being the early
80's Dallas was big in Europe and we
were a hit in our cowboy hats and
jeans in the evenings after
hunting. I had just began speaking
German and Charles spoke little yet
we danced with all the ladies and
the men all took pictures wearing
our hats. The hunting trip was a
success all around and Charles will
never forget it nor will I. It was
my 2nd hunting trip I went on in
Germany which lead to my long career
in Germany We toured Regensburg and
saw the Dom there and walked along
the river by the Steinere Brucke,
Charles left Berlin in 1985 and I
ended up doing four more assignments
in Germany. Ive returned to Texas
following retirement from the Army
and still have my leather German
Hunting Knickers (Lederhosen) as
well I hunt with the traditional
German Drilling a three barrelled
hunting weapon with two shotgun
barrels and a rifle barrell.
Before I ended my time in Europe I
ended up in three different
Schutzenveriens, two Hegerings, two
Jadgtvereins and several different
Stammstisches and even on the
Friewillige Feurwehre in
Niederossbach, WesterWald.
Yes I miss Germany which is why I
enjoyed your restraunt so well.
Looking forward to returning to your
restaurant again, it's almost like
having a Radeler in Bavaria, just
wished the hunters Stammtisch was
there as well.

St. Andrea's Kristallweizen added to
our selection of LOCAL draft beers
Prost and welcome to Franconia
Brewing's newest summer special
release, the light and fruity
Kristall named after our famous
Biertender manager: Andrea
- we are glad to offer our guests a
new, greener alternative, and since
we save on transportation and are
not influenced by the Euro versus
Dollar exchange rate we pass on the
savings to you with Franconian beer
brewed in McKinney, Texas at prices
like 1999! With a brewing heritage
that dates back to the 1800's
Franconia claims to be more than
just a local brewery, "it is in
essence true Bavarian brew."
Tell us what you think after you
tasted the ....
Franconia St. Andrea's
Kristallweizen
1/3l = $ 3.50, 1/2l
= $ 4.75
Original Bavarian Style brewed
exclusively for the enjoyment of the
guests of the Bavarian Grill following
the German Purity Law. Light Golden
Color. Fresh, smooth, very lightly
hoped, with a nicely balanced malt
sweetness, filtered for more clarity -
the only Kristall Weizen on draught in
North Texas
and the
Franconia Weizen
1/3l = $ 3.50, 1/2l = $
4.75
Bavarian Style Wheat Beer. This beer is
very popular in particular in southern
Germany. Using an original German yeast
strain in the brewing process
contributes to the natural fruity flavor
of Banana, Orange and Cloves, giving it
a outstanding refreshing taste. Of
course this Wheat Beer comes unfiltered
leaving all the natural goodness in it.
The Name Franconia was chosen for
several different reasons.
First off, Franconia translates to
Franken in German, a small region with
in Germany having the largest number of
breweries per population ratio in the
world. Franken also being the birth
place of our brew master Dennis Wehrmann.
A second special reason is to carry on
the family brewery name of Franken Braeu
being Franconia Brewing.
Stay tuned to this newsletter to
find out when we
will sample the new
Oktoberfest in the Biergarten !

In her email Inga, from
German Deli.com, the host of the vote, writes:
"The Voting ended but . . .
Okay, the official online voting for 2009 is over.
Well done, Bavarian Grill Team supporters!
But wait! There's more.
Now the real work begins.
1. We are now compiling the results from the many
forms received from our "undercover judges". If
you've looked at the judging form, you'll see that
we are getting feedback on cleanliness, value,
choices, food prep, service, and more.
2. We will review the health department
inspection reports for the restaurants leading this
competition.
Note: Your Bavarian Grill has scored an "A" with the
City of
Plano Health Department for many years!
3. My own special team of experts will secretly
visit leading restaurants "incognito" for one more
look.
4. We'll classify leading restaurants into large,
medium, and small based on seating capacity.
October 1, 2009. We'll announce the winning
restaurants for 2009. In addition to winners by
size, we will also announce a "best of" by state,
assuming there are enough authentic German
restaurants to justify the title for any given
state. Would you believe some states only have one
German restaurant?
The directory is up and running. We want our list
to be the best, most comprehensive list of German
Restaurants in the USA. I'm getting lots of
compliments from people who now use our directory to
find German restaurants when they travel outside
their comfort zone."
I asked Inga if she thinks it would be fair for me
to invite you to be a judge.
Here is her answer:
"Thanks for making my life a little easier. I
appreciate the link to the food inspection site. :
)
I don't think there's anything wrong with you
suggesting to your customers that they join the
network of "Undercover Judges" who are providing
great feedback about German restaurants all over the
country. Unlike the once-a-day online voting,
"Undercover Judges" can provide feedback on every
dining experiences at each and every German
Restaurant they visit, even if they are traveling.
I've already received lots of completed forms for
your restaurant. I've found the Undercover Judges
to be thoughtful , precise, and very detailed about
what they like (or don't like). In your newsletter
suggest that they consider being an Undercover Judge
whenever they dine at any German restaurant.
Gradually this effort will pay off by raising the
standards for dining out....German style.
This project has been one of the most enjoyable
things I've ever done. I have all sorts of great
ideas for next year!!
Alles Gute (best wishes)!
Inga"
