Where in Bavaria
are we? - The Quiz

In the last issue we asked: Please give
us some more detail about this famous
building in Bavaria - many of our
readers rose to this challenge, Thank
you very much for all of you who
provided the correct answer, please try
again!
And the winner wrote:
The answer is Nuremberg.
Working for Siemens, I went to Germany a
couple of times.
The "Albrech-Durer-Haus" is the clue in
the picture.
A lot of places in Germany bring me back
a lot of memories.
I learned that Albrecht Durer is a
famous painter and engraver of the
"Praying Hands", after I visited the "Albrech-Durer
Haus" during my stay in Nuremberg.
Their soccer team, FC Nuremberg, went
from 1. Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga a
couple of years ago, (and just
returned).
Famous buildings in Nurembergs are:
Frauen Kirche, where I usually go almost
every Sunday and Lorenz Kirche, where
the train station stopped underneath the
building.
Famous bridge is "Fleischbrucke" (if I
spell it correctly), located by the old
town (alt-stadt). The bridge crosses
river Pegnitz.
I don't know the local brewery from this
city, but I know that Nuremberg is
famous of their Christmas Market.
Nuremberg has a lot of attractions, from
German National Museum to Nuremberg
Castle.
Their first U-Bahn in Germany (route U3)
works without a driver is proudly
developed by Siemens. It is the first
subway system worldwide in which both
driver-operated trains and
computer-controlled trains share tracks.
Greetings, Ary

The story of the
White Asparagus
|
|
When you live in Germany, you will see people from
the cities making pilgrimages into the countryside
each spring to buy the Queen of vegetables from the
farmers right off the field. In addition, they go
out to eat the fresh white asparagus in the village
Gasthäuser. The highlight of the season for many
small villages is the annual "Spargelfest,"

|
Koelsch -
A Classic German Rich Golden Pale Beer, perfect
for the summer. It
is a local beer speciality, brewed in Cologne,
Germany. It is a clear beer with a bright
straw-yellow hue, and it has a prominent, but not
extreme, hoppiness. It is less bitter than the
standard German lager beer, Pils. Furthermore,
Kölsch is top-fermented at a relatively warm
temperature (13 to 21°C, or 55 to 70°F) and then
cold-conditioned, or lagered. This manner of
fermentation links Kölsch with some other beer
styles of central northern Europe, such as the
Altbiers of northern Germany and the Netherlands.
The Deutscher Brauer Bund categorizes Kölsch as an "obergäriges
Lagerbier".
Dennis Wehrmann gives us the advantage of saving us
the many miles of travel to enjoy this great fresh
brew!
