Where in Bavaria
are we? - The Quiz
In the last issue we asked: Please give
us some more detail about this famous
building in Bavaria - many of our
readers rose to this challenge, Thank
you very much for all of you who
provided the correct answer, please try
again!
And the winner wrote:
The city has to be Aschaffenburg. "AB"
is the Polizeikennzeichencode for the
city, that is why I guessed that
quickly. "A" is for Augsburg and "AC"
is for Aachen.
I don't have much of a story to tell
about Aschaffenburg, except that I have
been through there in August 1997,
November 2002 and most recently February
2009. For me it was the last rail stop
of the ICE in Freistaat Bavaria, north
of Würzburg, when going to Frankfurt am
Main. Hopefully I will have a chance to
actually visit, maybe in February 2010
when I visit there next time.
I see the Schloß Johannisburg, which is
the city castle on the Main, the same
river as Frankfurt. There are also
Schönbusch Manor in the Schönbusch Park,
The Pompejanum (Roman replica of a
stately home in Pompeii), the
Stiftskirche, the Gentilhaus,
the Capuchin hospital and a former
Teutonic Order house converted into a
theater, just to name a few.
For bridges tehre are the Ebert Bridge,
Willigis Bridge and Adenauer Bridge.
There is also a road tunnel under the
Schloßplatz. They have three breweries,
the Brauerei Schlappeseppel,
Gasthausbrauerei Hohe-Wart-Haus and
Schwindbräu. There is also the Bürgerliches
Brauhaus GmbH & Co. KG in Wiesen bei
Aschaffenburg.
If I don't win this week, that's no
problem. I thought I might at least
give the quiz a try. I look forward to
the Aschaffenburger Schlachtefest and
Pils and Pilzen this week.

Our Stein Club Meeting
will be on Wednesday, June 10th,
at 7 pm in the Biergarten of the
Bavarian Grill.

Minister of Bier Rick Tompkins who
researched the "History of the Bavarian
Grill Stein Club in Plano, Texas from 1993
until 2009". Some of the very early members
also have promised to participate and share
some stories with you.

the cities making pilgrimages into the countryside
each spring to buy the Queen of vegetables from the
farmers right off the field. In addition, they go
out to eat the fresh white asparagus in the village
Gasthäuser. The highlight of the season for many

"Erster Maibock Anstich bei der Franconia
Brauerei
in McKinney"

Our field trip to the Maibock keg tapping Party
and Tasting at the Franconia brewery in McKinney was
a full success: Not only did we enjoy the great
Maibock and the perfectly grilled Bratwurst with
Laugenwecken, but our participants donated over 50
pounds of non perishable foods and $ 350 in cash.
The group "Friends of Franconia" matched this
donation. This picture was taken after brewmaster
Dennis Wehrmann and his wife added another $ 200 to
our collection for
"God's Food Pantry"
here in Plano, TX.
And we are happy to announce that our Stein Club
member Peter's company will match this collection to
a new total of $ 2000 - that's really not bad for
going on a field trip!
Our big "Thank You!" to all the generous donors and
participants, keep the first Sunday in May 2010
